Full Quad Carts

Eddie built his first quad for an 80 lb. Basset Hound, Jake, who was quadriplegic following an unsuccessful operation on his neck. Jake had a vibrant personality despite his disabilities, and his family wanted him to be able to participate fully in their lives.

Eddie designed a cart with turning front wheels, a full body support, head rest and tow handle, so he could be moved from room to room and go outdoors with his family. Jake used his cart for 2 years, crossing the bridge at the age of 14.

Over the past 5 years, the quad cart has evolved and become more streamlined with each specially ordered cart. We have made full quad carts for numerous applications, among them:

  • For rehabilitation following cervical spine surgery such as, for Coochie, the 120 Newfoundland, who is now walking well on her own.
  • For Mint, a blind epileptic dachshund, who had never been able to support herself, now walking on all fours in her quad cart.
  • For Clover, a Pekinese, rehabbing from multiple disc surgeries, who has now recovered sufficient strength in her front legs to only need a counterbalanced rear wheel cart.
  • For dogs such as Murphy, an Airedale with advanced degenerative myelopathy, compassionate care that allows him to go outside for exercise, and play catch standing up.
  • For dogs suffering from severe auto-immune arthritis

  • For a Chihuahua, Weeble, born with cerebellar hypoplasia, a brain disorder that affects animals’ ability to balance and are constantly wobbly and falling over.
  • For Doberman Pinschers quadriplegic with Wobblers Syndrome.

  • Providing quality of life for dogs with polyneuropathy, an overall weakness in all four legs, such as Samantha.
  • Molly, with Scott, our machinist and master quad cart fabricator.

Quad carts can include the following features:

  • Adjustable, removable head rest to support weak necks can be removed to allow dogs to bend down to sniff, eat or drink.
  • Front and rear leg stirrups to prevent feet from dragging
  • Collapsible, removable tow handle allows you to take a completely paralyzed animal for a walk at your pace.
  • Adjustable height allows you to raise or lower the cart as your dog ‘s needs change.
  • Skeletal support system allows full movement of all four legs without requiring your pet to be able to support its own weight.

Each quad cart is individually designed, and fabricated to meet the particular needs of your dog. To order a quad cart for your dog, click here for the special quad measurement chart.  In order to take accurate measurements, have at least one person support the dog in a normal standing position, while you take measurements using a rigid metal tapemeasure or ruler.  Doublecheck all your measurements.  Please allow three weeks for the cart to be built. Carts are shipped fully assembled with a complete adjustment guide and tools necessary to make adjustments.
